Mai Khao Beach is an 11 km long sand stretch, making it the longest beach in Phuket. The beach is deserted at most places, but the International Airport on the south end (connected with Nai Yang Beach) has become a popular plane spotting location. The first time we visited the beach was on a late afternoon, which was a bit of a disappointment since the planes were taking off over the beach; we came here to watch the planes landing. So we decided to go early the next morning — and yes, this time the airplanes were landing over the beach. What a spectacular sight!
A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737 — a short to medium range airliner. We were hoping to see a huge Thai Airways plane landing, but could only see small to medium sized aircraft.

Bangkok Airways with another Airbus A320.
We brought the whole family with us that morning. Especially mom is very fascinated with airplanes.
While I was taking photos, my wife recorded videos with my GoPro. Here’s a video of a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737.
When we were leaving the beach, we could see a huge Thai Airways plane coming into land. Damn it!
The airport is located close the 5-star resort Centara Grand West Sands Resort and Villas, and you can park the car between the resort and airport.
