Sunrises in Thailand Are a Good Reason to Get up Early

Most people don’t like to go up early in the morning, and if it weren’t for my interests in flying drone during the early hours of the day, I wouldn’t haul my ass out of bed before the rooster crows.

But every time we do get up early, I’m fascinated by the incredible light that you do not see at sunsets. And the breakfast buffet tastes so good when you get back to your hotel after a little morning adventure.

If you’re staying at a west-facing beach, it can be hard to find a good spot, but if you have the opportunity to get to a good location, I strongly recommend it – especially if you’re flying a drone.

Below are a few places I have visited during sunrise.

Koh Yao Noi in Phang Nga Bay

Koh Yao Noi is an island in the middle of Phang Nga Bay with excellent resorts situated on the east coast like Paradise Koh Yao.

Nong Thale Lake in Krabi

The sunrise at Nong Thale Lake in Krabi is truly magical! Even more magical if you come here slightly earlier than we did (shot taken 07.00 am).

The canals in Amphawa

Staying at Casa Guesthouse by the canal in Amphawa, we went up early the next morning to give breakfast to a monk. I did not bring my camera, but my wife took this shot with her iPhone.

Rawai Beach in Phuket

Phuket’s famous beaches are located on the west coast, but Rawai Beach on the east coast boasts a beautiful sky during sunrise.

Samet Nangshe Viewpoint

We have just visit Samet Nangshe in the afternoon, but we will definitely come back in the sunrise hours. Facing Phang Nga Bay to the East, this spectacular viewpoint has become hugely popular among photographers.
