A Hangovertini at Sky Bar at Lebua State Tower in Bangkok

It has almost become a tradition to visit a new rooftop bar in Bangkok every year. We have previously grabbed a drink at Red Sky Bar, Char Rooftop Bar, Vertigo & Moonbar, and Eagle’s Nest — and now it was time to hit the most famous rooftop bar of them all: “The Hangover Bar” or Sky Bar at Lebua State Tower as it’s really called.

Located on the 64th floor 250 meters (820 feet) up, Sky Bar at Lebua is the highest rooftop bar in Bangkok and the highest open-air bar in the world. The panoramic views of downtown Bangkok and Chao Praya River are absolutely spectacular, especially at sunset.

I just had to try the Hangovertini, which was created for the cast of The Hangover Part II while they were filming at Lebua. Green in color, the cocktail is a mix of zen green tea liqueur, Scotch whiskey, Martini Rosso, green apple juice, and rosemary-infused honey.

My wife ordered a so-called “poptail” which is a cocktail combined with a popsicle ice. There are four poptails to choose from, and my wife grabbed one called Pop Star which is a Japanese Slipper cocktail but made with Olmeca Tequila, egg white, melon liqueur, lime cordial and Sky Mix, garnished with a melon and raspberry popsicle.

Sky Bar is no doubt a tourist attraction and not a place to sit and relax — and definitely not a place to get drunk as we paid about 1,600 baht for two drinks. But you pay for the view, and the service was incredible from the moment we stepped in the hotel with staff everywhere welcoming you, showing you the way to the elevator, asking you to watch the steps, helping you taking pictures and so on. It’s worth a visit!
