Baan Mon Muan is a resort with ten super cozy houses built in traditional Lanna-style situated next to a vegetable farm 1,250 meters up the mountain in Mae Rim just north of Chiang Mai. It’s such a peaceful atmosphere up here with a wonderful staff who will make every effort to fulfill your requests. The mountain view is fantastic and even if you don’t plan to stay here when in Chiang Mai, I recommend coming here to try out their restaurant with high-quality food.
We stayed in a two-floor house called Mon-Mek during the “green season” (March – October). High season in Chiang Mai is November to February, also known as “winter season.” However, winter in Chiang Mai is not the same as winter back home; it’s still pretty hot, but the evenings can be chilly enough to wear a lighter jacket.
View from our terrace on the first floor. Not bad!
Cozy living room with a sunken seating area, wood beams, recessed lights, ceiling fan, and a brick wall behind the TV. And behind that brick wall is a stair up to the second floor.
We brought a bottle of champagne purchased at the airport, and when asking the reception for two champagne glass, the room service showed up with an ice bucket. Sweet!
The bedroom on the second floor with a traditionally steeply gabled roof.
Balcony view from the bedroom. I could easily live here!
A path through the garden.
Vegetable farm with potatoes (I believe) closest in the picture.
Salads in different colors. Coming from Europe, it’s not to excitement seeing potatoes and leaves of salad, but for my wife, it was pretty cool since they can’t grow these kinds of things down south. But thanks to the cooler climate up north it’s possible to grow it here.
Sunflowers on the farm.
A short walk from the resort is a strawberry farm. Many Thai people including my wife find strawberries exotic, and they travel to Chiang Mai from all over the country to pick some (and feel the cooler climate).
We decided to pick some too. Champagne, strawberries. You got it!
Just before the sunset, we took a seat at the resort’s restaurant serving lovely food with fresh vegetables from their own farm.
A GoPro selfie.
View from the restaurant during sunset. We loved everything about this place and wished so bad we could stay here longer than one night. Check out the video below of me walking around the house with my camera.
