Despite being one of the most popular destinations in Thailand, Krabi is a perfect destination for families without the go-go bar scene you’ll see in Phuket and Pattaya. The many gorgeous islands and beaches are the main attraction, but there are plenty of things to do as a family, and below I’m giving you seven reasons to go.
1. Gorgeous Beaches
Several national parks incorporate the beaches and offshore islands in Krabi which is why jet skies and other motorized water sports aren’t allowed — perfect for those looking for a relaxing vacation with kids playing on the beach.
2. Island Hopping
Taking an adventurous longtail boat trip to some island is a perfect activity for families, and the kids will love it! Pack some food or snacks and find your dreamy spot under some trees on one of the uninhibited islands like Koh Poda.
There are plenty of family friendly hotels in Krabi offering larger rooms with all the amenities a family could need. Ao Nang (picture above) is the most popular town, but those looking for tranquility might want to choose Tubkaek Beach or Klong Muang Beach. Or why not Koh Lanta?
4. Activities such as kayaking and hiking
Krabi is a paradise when it comes to kayaking, and Thalane Bay (Ao Thalane) with gorgeous mangroves is a must-see. For the more adventurous family, there are some excellent rock climbing for beginners and hiking opportunities.

5. National Parks
There are several natural parks where families can take picnics, swim in natural pools and visit elephant sanctuaries. The most popular spot is the Emerald Pool and Blue Pool 70 km north of Krabi Town. Just make sure to come here early on a weekday to avoid the crowd. It’s pretty amazing!
6. Local markets
Visiting a local market where you can buy cheap sunglasses and flip-flops while munching on tasty street food is something every family member would enjoy. I recommend the Klong Haeng Market (Wednesdays 16:00 – 20:00) just outside the hustle and bustle of Ao Nang. Unlike the famous weekend market in Krabi Town, Klong Haeng does not have many tourists, giving that authentic feel.
7. Stunning Buddhist temples
Thailand boasts many impressive temples and Krabi is no exception. The newly built pagoda at the Wat Bang Thong complex in Ao Luek is spectacular! Another must-see is the Tiger Cave Temple in Krabi Town.
The best time to visit Krabi weatherwise is between December and April with many sunshine hours and light breezes.
